The Cecil B. Day Butterfly Center is an octagonal, glass-enclosed conservatory featuring tropical plants, birds, and more than 50 butterfly species. Their butterflies come from Costa Rica, Ecuador, Kenya, and Malaysia. A 12-foot waterfall is a feature in the design. Admission to the butterfly center is included in the Gardens entry fee.
In certain months, a talk about “Gardening for Butterflies” is given at 11 a.m. each weekday. On Thursdays and Fridays at 10:30 a.m., staff discuss the butterfly life cycle and monarch migration. You can also sign up for Butterfly 101 at 2 pm daily, Monarch 101, which is in the fall, or a guided tour of the butterfly center.
The Conservatory’s structure is LEED-certified, meaning the building is green – saving energy and resources. There is a gift shop with plant seeds and butterfly-related gifts. The conservatory is surrounded by 1.5 acres of landscaping designed to attract butterflies and birds.
Strollers and wagons and food or drinks are not allowed in the butterfly center.
ACCESSIBILITY: Pathways are paved and a lift is available. Service animals are allowed.
